QLN Announces GEAR UP Scholarships
QL has had a busy year presenting keynotes, distinguished lectures, pre-conference workshops and concurrent sessions at several national and state educational conferences. At the recent national GEAR UP conference in Washington, D.C., QLN president, Bobbi DePorter, spoke at one of the luncheons and announced the continuation of the company’s scholarship program in 2008/09 in which five GEAR UP teachers are selected to attend a QLT public workshop and five GEAR UP students are chosen to attend a QLN SuperCamp learning and life skills camp.
Hilary Clinton made a special appearance at the GEAR UP conference. She gave an inspiring talk about the difference GEAR UP has made in helping at-promise youth make it into college. The U.S. Department of Education reports that 84.4% of GEAR UP students now enroll in college versus 64.1% of low-income students nationwide.

Thank You Letters from 2008 Teacher Scholarship Recipients
From Alaire Long...
Thank you so much for this awesome week of professional growth for me. I would not have been able to attend with my own resources, so the scholarship is a great gift for my future students.
As a result of all that I’ve learned this week I believe I can greatly inspire and enhance learning in my students. The MAN learning strategies based on the FADE content and PFLL context will provide a new framework for all of my teaching. I am most excited about the 5 Tenets and the 8 Keys of Excellence.
I truly believe these principles are going to prove to be so powerful in my classroom and our whole school as I share with my principal and colleagues.
From Barbara Tollison...
Thank you so much for providing an opportunity through GEAR UP to attend the 5-day Quantum Learning for Teachers Training. This has been an empowering week for me and all of the teachers who participated.
By giving us a foundation that blends the best scientific brain research with engaging, motivating, and fun teaching strategies, you have made me excited to return to lesson planning, teaching, and interacting with my students in the fall. I even look forward to grading papers and tests to see the growth that I am certain to see.
I am enthusiastic about sharing the Quantum Learning experience with my students and colleagues. What I have learned and lived this week will resonate through my teaching and through my life.
Thank you again, and thanks to all of the Quantum Learning team for creating and delivering such a great program.
